Crawl space repair and cleanup
Years of damp air, a plumbing leak or a flood can leave the space under your house a mess. Repair work puts it back in shape before anything gets sealed up.
A lot of crawl space jobs in Rocky Mount start as cleanup. The insulation is soaked and hanging, the old plastic is in pieces, there's debris from past repairs, and some of the wood has gone soft. That has to be dealt with before a new vapor barrier or encapsulation makes sense.
What does crawl space repair usually include?
- Insulation removal. Wet fiberglass between the joists rarely dries in place and often falls out on its own.
- Debris and old plastic removal. Clearing the floor so the ground and walls can be inspected.
- Wood repair. Replacing rotted sill plates, rim joists and sections of subfloor, often near bathrooms, kitchens and exterior doors.
- Duct and pipe issues. Pointing out disconnected or crushed ducts and leaking pipes for the right trade to fix.
- Access and vents. Repairing crawl space doors and damaged vent openings.
After a flood
Low-lying parts of Rocky Mount, Tarboro and Princeville know river flooding, and even a summer downpour can put water under a house on a poorly drained lot. If yours took on water:
- Stay out until power to equipment under the house is off and the water is gone.
- Take photos before anything is removed, for insurance.
- Get soaked insulation, plastic and debris out.
- Let the space dry fully before sealing or re-insulating.
- Have joists, beams, piers and ducts checked for damage.
What about mold?
Damp wood and insulation can grow mold. A crawl space company can fix the moisture source, remove wet materials and point out damaged framing. For significant growth, or if someone in the house has health concerns, ask for a referral to a mold assessment or remediation specialist. We don't test for or remediate mold, and we don't make health claims.
Permits for repairs
The City of Rocky Mount's permit list includes structural floor work and insulation, and says floor joist repairs must follow the current NC Residential Code or be documented by an engineer. Ask the company whether your repair needs a permit and who will pull it.
Pricing comes from the crawl space company after someone has been under the house, measured it and seen what's there. We don't give prices, and a figure offered over the phone before that visit is a guess, not a quote.

Common questions
Should wet crawl space insulation be replaced?
Usually it comes out. Soaked fiberglass rarely dries in place. Whether new insulation goes back between the joists or on the walls depends on whether the crawl space is being closed.
Do you handle termite treatment?
No. A crawl space company can point out insect damage to wood, but treatment is done by a licensed pest control company.
